Personality
If I had to sum it up, Jin is a jerk most of the time. Ice being his element is no accident. He’s cold and hateful to most people he knows. This is in part thanks to his sword Yukianesa which amplifies its wielder’s emotions by 400%. So where most people operate at a 6 or a 7, Jin is forced to be at 40 at all times. This results in running on the desire to kill his brother and immense negative feelings toward anyone who vaguely looks like his little sister, verging on a desire to kill her and all of her clones, too.
As a war hero, he further displays his cold nature by not really caring about any part of his job nor his accolades. It is honestly a shorter list to count things he actually likes, and that’s staunchly just Ragna and Tsubaki. He actively runs away and disobey orders all to see Ragna. Anyone who’s trying to help him or offering advice have to fight past his stubborn personality. If it’s not related to something he likes, he won't even register in his brain. That single-mindedness gets him into all sorts of situations.
He does have positive traits, even if they must be dug down for because of his sword’s effect. He’s caring and soft when he’s comfortable with someone. Despite being really mad at Noel for having his sister’s face, he was kind to her and her friends while they all went to the same school. Giving advice and looking out for his fellow students, along with his good sense and insight, is what made him student council president, and then later Colonel when he joined the NOL (the military). He even liked his sister once upon a time. Truly his personality downfall is half his possessed sword and half middle child syndrome. Ragna claims Jin’s actual personality used to be that of a shy crybaby, which is … still true.

History
Jin Kisaragi was born to this Kisaragi clan in Japan, unaware that his father had been living a double life before his birth. The Kisaragi clan was one focused on strength above all other things. His father adopted other children for this purpose. As would be expected of a household where only the strongest is accepted, it was a hostile environment where you couldn’t trust anyone.
As luck (or inevitability) would have it, Jin was eventually kidnapped at a young age. It was theorized one of his siblings wanted him out of the way, and their father let it be, assuming that Jin could use the situation to get stronger. Jin did not unkidnap himself, seeing as that’s a wild expectation of a child his age, thus starting his life with Krusnik instead. Jin doesn’t remember much of anything from the time with his father or anything about that family, thankfully.
The other children of Krusnik became his family, Jin retaining his shy, crybaby personality for a long time. It was time that matured him and also allowed himself to grow attached to the family he made there. He was tangentially aware that his past life had something to do with the efforts being put forth to get him to ‘accept’ a strong spirit. It wasn’t until much later that he realized that there was a TBO Scientist trying to influence things to have him regain The Power of Order, which could have limitless possibilities if he combined it with a powerful spirit. Luckily, this never got to happen.
The turning point was a curse that found its way to him through an object he interacted with. It enhanced his emotions to a dangerous degree and tried to push him to harm his siblings. In this harrowing time, he left to find a way to stop the curse or stop himself. This pushed him into the offices of TBO. He heard of their ability to cryogenically freeze people and wished to undergo the process. If he couldn’t stop himself, then he would try to wait it out.
That same TBO scientist thought it would be funny to turn down the time Jin would be frozen, wanting to force a situation where Jin would have to either use The Power of Order to stop the curse or go on a murder spree. They both ended up disappointed in the end. Jin woke up early, but the curse had lost its effect while he was asleep.

Made from the remains of Take-Mikazuchi and formerly owned by the head of the Kisaragi family. After that guy ended up committing murder as what seems to happen when you own this sword, it ended up missing. Luckily, the person who manipulated Jin found it and made sure it ended up in his hands. As you would expect, death and destruction followed because Jin wasn't even 10 yet. Don't ask Ragna what he thinks of this thing.
